Week 5 - Getting into the Groove

Writer's picture: Kililani RheinKililani Rhein

I know, kind of cringey title.....but I couldn't think of anything else.

This week I took it slow. I spent a lot of time with my grandparents and hung out with new friends. Sorry , this update might be my shortest yet.

School

I'm a lot happier about my registration decisions after classes this week. I finally feel very interested in the courses I've chosen but at the same time not overwhelmed. Since I also now have Wednesday's open I plan to spend them exploring Tokyo.

Lunch with Grandpa

On Wednesday since I didn't have any classes I spent the day with my grandpa. We got miso ramen at a nearby mall. I got 北海道味噌ラーメン (Hokkaido Miso Ramen) but my grandpa got 信州味噌ラーメン (Shinshu Miso ramen). The Hokkaido miso tasted better. But I had a really fun day with my grandpa; we just hung out, ate, and watched TV together. It was very peaceful and nice.

Getting Drinks & Birthday Lunch

Getting Drinks
I went to eat dinner and get drinks with a new friend I made at Sophia University. She's actually from Hawaii as well and it was really cool meeting her in one of my classes. We got pasta at an Italian restaurant that was nearby Sophia University. We then went to Shinjuku for drinks. The izakaya we went to had great 手羽先 (tebasaki), which is kind of like chicken wings but better. The sauce is a little sweet and sticky and the chicken meat is juicy. I forgot to take pictures of the tebasaki but if I ever go again, I'll be sure to take some pictures and post.

Birthday Lunch

We also celebrated my grandma's 83rd birthday today. Technically her birthday is next week but we already have plans then so we decided to celebrate her birthday just a little bit early. We got sushi delivered from a nearby sushi place my grandparents like. It was delicious. I especially enjoyed the chutoro.

I'm sorry my post is really short this week. Honestly, i'm just taking it slow right now finding my pace. Hopefully next week is more exciting.

Until next week...😊
