Hello Everyone! This week has been really hot and muggy. It really feels as though summer has arrived.
Hiyashi Chuka (Cold Ramen) & Hojicha Ice cream
Hiyashi Chuka
This week due to the heat, I've been craving cold foods like ice cream and cold soups. On Friday after my class, I was really craving hiyashi chuka so I looked up online where I could find some in the Tokyo area and found Shichisai. They are famous for their fresh-hand made noodles. Their shop is located in the Nihonbashi area and is quite small with only counter seating. Since the restaurant was so small, usually there is a line but it is well worth it.
The shop has three ramen bases shoyu, niboshi, and shio. Though the ramen looked delicious and I definitely will go again to try it, I actually ordered their summer special hiyashi chuka. It was piled with small cherry tomatoes and cucumbers. It was so refreshing and the noodles were the best part; soft and chewy.

Hojicha Ice Cream
Afterwards I was still craving something cold so I looked up where to get some ice cream and I found this tea shop in Ningyocho. It is famous for its hojicha ice cream (which is one of my favorite flavors). I took the train over and when I arrived at the station I saw that they had a shrine nearby called Suitengu Shrine. I like to visit different shrines and temples so I went and it was very beautiful. I also noticed a lot of people with small children or toddlers at the shrine paying their respects. Only to later hear from my grandmother that this shrine is famous for safe childbirth.
Then I picked up some ningyo yaki from a famous shop nearby (for my grandfather because he likes them) and also because ningyocho is famous for ningyo yaki and I wanted to try it.
When I arrived at the tea shop I went up to the second floor and ordered a hojicha ice anmitsu, it is one of my favorite desserts to get during the summer. The hojicha ice cream at this shop was home-made and very delicious. Highly recommend!

My grandmother and I also made tempura today for lunch. We made shiso, onion, carrot, kabocha, and green bean tempura with a side of cold soba. It was delicious and a great lunch to combat the summer heat.
Until next week...😊
